Wouldn't THAT Be Nice?

This evening I'm sitting here at my desk lamenting the fact that I haven't posted anything in nearly a month.  I know, you've all been lamenting this as well...bored stiff waiting for me to sit myself down in front of my computer to blog, you are.  I have plenty to write about and have had said plenty for a while.  i just haven't done it.  However, tonight is different (I am posting after all, right?).  While I was perusing some of my favorite blogs a few minutes ago, I had the most wonderful, dreamy and unrealistic thought (or wish) come to mind:

I should whip up a totally incredible blog.

I would write a single post (maybe two?) each day and blow the minds of all my followers with my humor, charm, knowledge, ideas, wit, craftiness, opinions and overall amazing-ness.  I'd have thousands of followers reading my brilliant words on a daily basis and over to the side of my posts would be advertisements and links for companies that would pay me serious dinero just for having a blog that people read.  I'd make several thousand dollars each month just for being me and writing about it.

There are real stay at home moms out there who do just that.  And they have the bank rolls, freedom to go shopping and followers to prove it.

Wouldn't that be nice?

Too bad I only write every once in every 5 blue moons...and maybe not even that often.

2012 Blog Goal

This isn't a New Year's resolution but I'm making a blog goal for 2012: 50 posts by the end of the year.  That's an average of 4.1666666666666666666666666666667 posts  per month (yes, I actually counted the 6's on the calculator...it confused my eyes and my head) and a whopping 8 posts better than I did in 2011.  If I make it to 50 sooner than expected, maybe I'll up the ante at that point.

Oh - and I'm being good and considering this post a "bonus" that doesn't count in my tally for the year.  I can do it!  I think...

LIST: Wishful Thinking Christmas List

Wow - I haven't done a list (let alone a post of any sort) in a very long while! Time for me to repent...

Tonight we had the kids write letters to Santa Claus. This was Claire's 1st year writing one (okay - she dictated and I wrote) and Hudson's 3rd. They were both very psyched about it and are excited to get responses from the big man in a week or two. And no, it's not me that does the return correspondence...we happen to have Santa's address and he writes back every year. Good deal.

Now, while the kids have no problem coming up with a list of the things they'd like to get on Christmas morning, I've always had a hard time coming up with anything to tell my hubby or my parents. But this year is different. I've come up with a few things that I'd really, really, really like to receive. It's not a very long list but unfortunately, I'm afraid that everything I want is more or less out of the question...

MY UNREALISTIC CHRISTMAS WISH LIST
  • Uninterrupted showers for one whole year. I'd even settle for a month. No one opening the door or coming into the bathroom. No child: asking me what I'm doing, begging for a snack, letting me know that they're bored, or wanting to hang out. Oh - and no ringing phones that leave me wondering who called for the rest of the time I'm in the shower.
  • Someone else to do all of my cleaning, laundry, cooking, and dishes. For free. Without prompting. Without complaining. Do you know how many projects I could finish up if I didn't have to, well, do my job as a wife and mom?!
  • For my children to get along more...preferably all the time. They're pretty good but there's room for improvement. My sister and I were laughing about this one the other day because mom used to say that we could give this to her as a gift. We'd say that it didn't count and wasn't a present. She'd respond that it would be to her. Now I understand.
  • For chocolate, bread, ice cream, pastries (all baked treats in general), butter, and everything else that tastes good to be completely carbohydrate, sugar, and calorie free. It would be very helpful to me as I try to shed some pounds. Very helpful indeed.
  • A mute button for my kids. It seems like anytime that I'm on the phone, Max and I are trying to talk, or I have something to say to them, one or both of my kids (who were completely oblivious to my existence for the 30 minutes prior to that moment) have to start yelling, talking, asking questions, etc. I know that duct tape was invented for a reason but a mute button would be so much quicker for me and less painful for them.
I think that's about it...it's not asking all that much, is it? I'm only asking for a measly 5 things for Christmas. None of them has to be wrapped and no one has to spend a dime. Pretty please?!

CRAVING THE END OF WINTER

Max keeps commenting that he's done with winter, ice & snow, and the mucky air outside. While I'm O.K. with a bit more of it (except for the smog), I really am looking forward to springtime and the freedom of summer when I can take the kids outside. Have BBQ's and eat on patio. Sit outside in the evening and enjoy the fresh air. Push Claire in the swing:

Watch Max doing yard work and taking the occasional break with Hudson and Miles:

Not have to worry about Claire getting too cold when she takes her shirt off:

Put Hudson back in swimming lessons:

I'm looking forward to bulbs in my yard popping up. To baby deer walking the neighborhood with their moms. To new leaves budding on my Japanese Maples. To opening the windows all over my house and letting the musty trapped air escape. To trips to the zoo and stops at the park. To birds chirping in the trees.

The more I think about it, the more I'm practically salivating for warmer weather. But it's only February 4th and I don't even get to think about planting tomatoes let alone having an entirely snow-free yard until May. Maybe this post was a bad idea...
